    • The Story of the two brothers who founded the city of Rome, Ramulus and Remus, has been told to people for thousands of years. Some things from the story have been exaggerated and changed but most of it remains the same. The story starts with Rhea Silvia the mother of the two boys who had been made a vestal virgin by Amulius. This ment that she was forced to become a priestess of the goddess Vesta and therefore could never marry. The god Mars however raped Rhea thus conceiving the two sons. once the boys were born they were imediatly abandoned by Amulius in fear that they would one day grow-up and over throw him. He took them to a remote location and sent them down the river. It was a flood at this time and when the waters subsided Ramulus and Remus were left on the shore. A she-wolf eventually discovered them and instead of eatting them took them as her own pups, even allowing them to nurse from her. The two boys were adventually discovered by a shepherd named Faustulus who brought the boys to his home and with his wife raised them as his own. When the boys reached adulthood they took vengance on there father Amulius killing him and reinstating there grandfather Numitor as king. The two boys then decided to start a city of there own which they called Rome.

  • During this period in Roman History the last of the Etruscan kings was expelled by the new revolution of the Roman people. After a brief, yet destructive battle, the Republic of Roma was born. Romulus & Remus' work had paid off in several ways. For most of the lifetime of the Roman community was a republic with about 300 Senators voting on various issues. Until the birth of Jesus Christ in the next 1/2 milenium, Rome began conquering, and assuming control of many areas. Including a very large portion of present-day Italy.
